The Rapido Driver Who Taught Me to Never Give Up
I recently had a ride with a Rapido driver named Manu that I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about getting from point A to point B; it was about a conversation that left me feeling inspired and hopeful.
Manu, originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan used to run a grocery shop in Pune. But, like many others, he lost his business during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a difficult time for him, both financially and emotionally. He even went through a period of depression and mental anxiety.
But Manu is a fighter. He didn’t let his setbacks define him. He picked himself up, got a new auto, and started driving full-time. And he does it with a smile on his face. As we drove through the streets of Viman Nagar, Pune, Manu spoke about everything from politics to the latest Bollywood release “Dunki” sharing his love for Shah Rukh Khan. But what really struck me was his positive outlook on life.
Despite everything he’s been through, Manu remains optimistic. He believes in the power of hard work and perseverance. He told me that he believes that every day is a new opportunity, and that we should never give up on our dreams.
When Manu dropped me home, I complimented him on his positive attitude. I told him that I have so much to learn from him. That is when I got to know that he had depression and mental anxiety. I also told him that I wanted to click his picture. With a smiling face he adjusted his hair and went to the back of the auto with a smile. He pointed out to a sticker pasted on the back of the auto that said “Manu is waiting for you.”
Manu’s story is a reminder that we all face challenges in life. But it is important to never give up. We need to stay positive and hope for a better future.
